Fax SMTP Email API

The enterprise-grade fax platform can be driven as an SMTP email API by any application that already sends email. If your system can send mail, it can send faxes — no client library, no SDK, and no new protocol to learn, which cuts the lead time on deployment and lets developers build on functionality they already have.

That is the distinction from the Fax API: the same fax network underneath, reached either by writing against our libraries or, here, by sending an email from code you have already written.

How it works

1. A user or a condition in your application triggers a fax.
2. Your application sends an email carrying the fax contents through your outbound SMTP server.
3. UTBox mail services receive it and convert the contents to a fax image.
4. The fax is transmitted over the PSTN to the destination number or numbers.
5. The fax servers report success or failure, and UTBox emails the originating address either way.
6. Your application handles the returned email and applies your own business rules to the result.
