Rates below apply to messages sent within Australia and include GST. Each SMS carries up to 160 characters.

Sending SMS in Australia
For messages sent within Australia we have a standard retail rate of 12 cents, down to as low as 5 cents per message. That is cheaper than a standard mobile phone plan, which may charge in excess of 20c per message sent.
Each SMS holds up to 160 basic characters using GSM encoding, or up to 70 characters where the message contains special characters and needs Unicode encoding. An email to SMS message longer than 160 characters is split across multiple messages — up to 9 of them, for a maximum of 1,440 characters.
